Firva: Strings of Fate Demo Preview

Developed by Gord Games, Firva: Strings of Fate is an indie adventure with plenty of potential, but it still has rough edges that hold it back. As the studio’s first indie game, it offers enjoyable moments throughout, especially in exploration and puzzle-solving. However, certain gameplay mechanics and the storytelling could use more refinement to make the overall experience more engaging. Even though this is the demo, the developers are still hard at work and continue to improve the game.

Some Enjoyable Puzzles

One thing that immediately stands out about Firva: Strings of Fate is how linear the game is. You’re unlikely to get lost, as the game does a good job of keeping you on the intended path. While this makes progression straightforward, it also leaves little room for exploration or unexpected discoveries. That may change as the full game is still being worked on.

Along the way, you’ll encounter small puzzles that require some thought to overcome obstacles. These additions help break up the gameplay and offer something different from simply moving forward. They’re not overly complicated, but they provide enjoyable moments throughout the adventure.

However, the movement mechanics could use some improvement. Climbing towers and other objects can feel a bit rough at times, and refining these interactions would make traversal much smoother. I have noticed that using the controller in this game has some weird input, which forces me to play mainly on keyboard.

Combat and Storytelling

Unfortunately, combat is one of Firva: Strings of Fate’s weaker aspects. While it serves its purpose, it feels lacking and could use more polish to make encounters more satisfying and engaging.

The story also struggles to leave a lasting impression. Although the game attempts to explain what’s happening, the narrative lacks the depth needed to make me feel invested in the characters or their journey. The game has potential, but the storytelling needs more development to make the adventure feel meaningful.

Final Verdict

Firva: Strings of Fate has some good ideas that haven’t quite reached their full potential. The straightforward progression and small puzzles make it an approachable adventure, but I wish it had more depth and complexity.

That said, as Gord Games’ first indie project from a small team, it still has plenty of positives worth recognizing. The foundation is there, and with more polishing and improvements to the gameplay and storytelling, the developers could build something much stronger.

We hope to see what they change and improve. The game will be released on PC (Steam); you can try and play the current demo they have.
